Quincy Update

Dear Quincy Family,

Happy New Year! It is so exciting to share a brand new year with all of you. We had so much fun spreading holiday cheer before the break and we want to share some of that fun with you! Check out this video https://youtu.be/rjU0YTbfIWc, it will surely make you smile.

There are so many amazing things going on at the Q and we are ready to make 2017 our best year yet! As I walk down the halls, I see the New Year’s Resolutions that first-graders wrote. They set goals to push themselves to be the best they can be.

Many Quincy students and teachers have embraced the “one-word” goal setting movement and have selected just one word to help them focus their efforts over the course of 2017. The fourth and fifth graders on the be nice. committee chose a word and we heard words like, “grow, support, include, grateful, smile”. When given an opportunity, students are so reflective and such deep thinkers. They want good things for themselves and the world and understand their role in making that happen.

Fourth graders have composed emails to Senator Arlan Meekhof and Representative Garcia about the conditions of Detroit Public Schools. Student compassion and giving hearts are a testament not only to the great environment at Quincy but to their upbringing. We are so fortunate to have you as partners.

Our PTO has generously volunteered to deliver the hats and gloves to Blackwell Institute next week. They will also be providing a lunch for the staff and PTO of Blackwell. Thank you so much for supporting this effort, we have really touched the hearts of students, staff, and the Blackwell community.

Happy New Year to all of you from your Q-Crew!

Winter Wear

Some days it may not seem quite like winter out and other days there is no doubt it is winter! It gets pretty cold on the Quincy playgrounds. Please be sure to send your students with a hat, gloves, boots, snow pants and a warm winter coat. Also, be sure to label everything in case a student misplaces something. Thank you!
