Students and Mrs. Statema with Miranda

We had a wonderful time celebrating the end of the Iditaread! We had several special guests for our assembly this morning. Maranda from WOTV was here and she will feature Quincy on her show on Thursday–watch WOTV Channel 4 at 4:00pm on Thursday, March 30th.
We also saw a real sled dog! Mr. and Mrs. Braymer brought their dog Baloo in for us to see the characteristics of a sled dog. All students received their very own Quincy Iditaread bracelets to celebrate all our hard work.
Thank you for supporting our mission to read more during March to build our reading skills and our love for reading!

Whitecaps Reading Calendars MUST be turned in by Thursday, March 30.

Spring Break begins this week. Our last day of school is Thursday, March 30. We do not have school on Friday or the following week. School resumes on Monday, April 10.

Kindergarten Grandparents Day is Friday, April 21 at 2:00 pm. Because of limited parking, car pooling is encouraged. Another option to consider is parking at Helder Park and riding with other grandparents to Quincy to help with parking.

Our Spring Book Fair is Buy One Get One Free! Please mark  is April 24-27 with Tuesday Family Night hours of 3:45-6:00 pm.

An important responsibility of the school staff is to assign students to classes for the next year.  Later this spring, the Quincy Elementary staff will meet to determine student placements for the 2017-18 school year.  Our goal is to develop balanced classrooms of children and we take class size, gender, learning styles, achievement levels, interpersonal dynamics, and social needs of our students into consideration when doing so.  Each classroom is a small community and we work hard to set up each child for success.

Parent input is a consideration in this process. If you wish to include unique information about your child’s needs that you would like us to consider in the placement process, please complete the form that will available in the office after Spring Break. We will review parent input carefully before making any placement decisions.

The City of Zeeland has set aside Saturday, April 22 as a Day of the Young Child special event. It begins at 9:30 am and ends at 1:00 pm. Visit Cityside’s main gym for games, music and art activities for 3rd graders and younger. Parents will also be provided bike and car seat safety information as well as educational resources appropriate for parents of young children. You will also want to head outdoors to the front of the school to have your children hope on a fire truck, school bus, cement truck, and other vehicles. Additionally, there will be face painting, animals to pet, and special visits from team mascots. You won’t want to miss this!

Our students are having so much fun participating in our March is Reading Month Iditaread! The whole school had a “Hall Out and Read” on Friday afternoon. Students are turning in their ‘paws’ and moving their class along to Nome, Alaska–the end of the Iditarod. Our goal is to have enough students read at home and turn in paws to have every class make it to the finish line! For more information, check out this video.
